Overview
The Directive passed into European law in Dec 2000, and was transposed into Northern Ireland legislation in January 2003 under the title, the Water Environment (Water Framework Directive) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003.
The Directive calls for an integrated approach to all water management and, in implementation, it has defined milestones and deadlines that are to be met over the coming years. There is a legal requirement for compliance with its many requirements.
The Directive will influence and impact on numerous bodies and organisations, both inside and outside government that are involved in, or associated, with water management.
