Purpose and use of the survey

A river corridor survey:
Watercourses which do not justify a full river corridor survey are also considered from an environmental perspective. Agency conservation officers carry out walk-over surveys on these watercourses and make recommendations to ensure that nature conservation interests are taken into account prior to any works.
The recommendations of all surveys are integrated with fishery measures to ensure a fully co-ordinated approach to watercourse maintenance.
Surveys are not usually possible in those infrequent situations where emergency works are required, e.g. after a serious flood.
