Aim of river restoration
The aims of river restoration are to:
- increase the extent to which a river and its floodplain interacts
- sustain a landscape that is rich in river and wetland habitat
- maintain agriculture as a vital part of the rural economy
The vision is to create a riverside environment that people will want to use and enjoy.
In endeavouring to accomplish the stated aims, it is clear that balancing and accommodating varying environmental, social and economic pressures on the river, and its floodplain, can only be achieved with the co-operation of those who live and work on the floodplain.
